Jump cut, the cut jumping about conventions of continuity editing
Kozáková, Tereza ; BROTHÁNEK, Adam (advisor) ; ČIHÁK, Martin (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines the discontinuous editing process - jump cut in the theoretical-historical context, as well as in the three film analyzes, both practical and meaningful. The theoretical part of this work serves to realize the basic principles of shearing composition and, in particular, defines the circumstances that are behind the successful binding of shots in general. The next part of the text is devoted to the technical aspects of the jump cut and the related aspects that are decisive for its composite quality. This part also explores the historical origin of the jump cut on film examples, where it appears first and / or consciously. To a large extent, how much and how the popular film criticism has contributed to its popularization. Finally, the analysis of the three selected films examine both the useful jump cut and the occasions when it is not. Analysis are specifically intended to characterize the importance of jump cut and its impact on the viewer in the story of the analyzed works and whether, under what circumstances the jump cut contributed to the resulting whole or not of the work.
The Language of Filmic Dreams
Hasalík, Petr ; DAŇHEL, Jan (advisor) ; DOLENSKÝ, Martin (referee)
This thesis focuses on the language of filmic dreams, i.e., the means of expression used by filmmakers to create stylized dream scenes or sequences from the time of Georges Méliès to the present. Each chapter covers one decade and contains analyses of original dream scenes or sequences from two films from the respective period. There are also short synopses of all the analysed films that provide the context for the dream scenes or sequences and each dream scene or sequence is represented by two still frames from the film. At the end of each chapter, there is a list of films with dream scenes or sequences from the respective period, including the dominant means of expression used by the filmmakers, and also the films that do not use any stylization of dreams. The goal of this thesis is to provide a brief historical overview of films containing dream scenes or sequences with focus on the means of expression used by filmmakers throughout the history of cinema.

AUDIOVISUAL POST-PRODUCTION IN ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS
Švejkar, Jan ; SUK, Aleš (advisor) ; Štěpánek, František (referee)
What motivated this paper was an obvious hunger of fellow students from the editing department to explore possibilities of the Adobe After Effects program. My work aims to map and explain tools that the AAE program offers to the user working in the field of an audio-visual media postproduction. First part of my paper introduces the working interface and the structure of the application, while the second lays down the basic work methods. In the third part, I will look closer at selected workflows and several case studies that will provide an insight into the most frequently used functions. This work does not aim to make a complete coverage of the AAE functions. As a student of the editing department, I have selectively explored functions I find most important and enriching. After reading this paper, an editor will be able to work on touch ups, masking, image stabilizing, colour keying, will be able create animated titles, animatics and do other postproduction work that couldn't be done with the usual editing programs.
Rustic and acoustic. Editor's work on an audiovisual field
Pospíšil, Matěj ; ČIHÁK, Martin (advisor) ; BROTHÁNEK, Adam (referee)
This paper focuses on sound as an essential structural element in the creation of an audiovisual work in the editing room. It describes the basic physical, physiological and psychological effects of sound waves on the human being-editor (and subsequently on the viewer). It further examines the relationship between sound and image based on a few key concepts developed by theoretician Michel Chion. Examples of a precise and meaningful work with sound are drawn from the analysis of various excerpts of Miroslav Janek's film Chačipe, edited by Tonička Janková.
